Connected Vehicle & Mobility

Established in 2019 to respond to the growing interest of public and private companies towards the potential offered by new technologies applied to the automotive and mobility sectors. The Observatory Connected Vehicle & Mobility aims to generate and share knowledge on the evolution of vehicles in “smart” terms and, more in general, on the role of mobility supporting digital technologies, ultimately to contribute to the market development in a context that is characterized by insufficient clarity regarding the status of applications, the enabled benefits, and the expected evolution of enabling technologies.

Connected Vehicle & Mobility Observatory Research

Within the annual edition, the Connected Vehicle & Mobility Observatory aims to launch numerous research activities in several fields regarding the evolution of Connected Vehicles and Smart Mobility. In particular:

• analyze the Connected Vehicle e Smart Mobility application scenario in Italy, identifying the most interesting initiatives, and structure a comparison with other countries;
• estimate the spread and value of connected cars, ADAS systems, and smart mobility solutions market in Italy;
• analyze the strategies enabling to valorize the data collected by connected vehicles, assessing the impact of their use on sustainability and investigating privacy and cyber security related topics;
• examine in greater depth the evolution of the Connected Vehicle & Mobility market value chain analyzing emerging business models and building a census of associated services;
• look closely into technology trends of the Connected Vehicle & Mobility sector, analyzing the evolution of V2X networks and 5G infrastructure, and of autonomous drive trends and of ADAS systems;
• analyze the evolution of consumer habits in electric and connected mobility, smart features, and Smart Mobility through a survey;
• analyze Smart Mobility, Smart Road & MaaS (Mobility as a Service) projects in progress and future intentions of Italian City’s and local government as well as infrastructure operators, investigating new business models enabled by the Public-Private partnership and synergies with the sustainability and decarbonisation world;
•  closely examine the status of Fleet Management initiatives in Italy through an ad hoc survey targeted to enterprise companies with fleets of cars and business vehicles, estimating costs and benefits;
• investigate the views of dealers, auto repairers, and the aftermarket industry through two ad hoc surveys and analysis of the most relevant initiatives launched on the international scene;
• analyze innovative business models involving the integration between connectivity and electric mobility, assessing the benefits in terms of new services and sustainability;
• monitor the frontier of innovation, analyzing the most interesting startups focusing on Connected Vehicles and Smart Mobilityin Italy and abroad;
• lay the groundwork to launch Connected Vehicle and Smart Mobility pilot projects.
